Rowdy Voices and Quiet Whispers is the latest book from Port Macquarie & Districts Family History Society. It recognises the 377 female convicts sent to the penal colony at Port Macquarie and tells the story of 75 female convicts ranging from quiet to feisty.

There is a comprehensive register of the female convicts who were sent to Port Macquarie as punishment, on assignment, on Tickets of Leave, or to join their husbands. The 340-page book is a fascinating read that sheds light on the lives of these women and the challenges they faced in a new and unfamiliar land. It is a testament to the resilience and strength of the human spirit, and it is sure to captivate readers of all ages.

The compilation has been a labour of love and a challenge to the research skills of our members. Our hope is that it will inspire researchers to delve into the records and bring these ladies to life in their own research.
